Summer 2026 Updates

This summer has been a busy in the Northeast! We’ve had numerous large thunderstorms, and some areas have seen more that double their normal precipitation for July! This has kept us very busy with the UConn Outage Prediction Model.

On the research side, much work has been completed. Two papers (one on radar precipitation estimates and one on snow-to-liquid ratios) are under revision in their respective journals! We are excited for these papers on key research topics to almost be available in final form.

Additionally, I travelled to Madison, Wisconsin in August to attend the American Meteorological Society’s Madison Summit. It was a wonderful time at conference where I got to connect with colleagues and old friends, as well as met new people and hear about some great research topics! I presented an introduction to an observation-based framework that can used to evaluate microphysical parameterizations in an offline environment; this also allows for iterative refinement without the need to run additional simulations. I am currently using this framework for my NASA FINESST proposal to evaluate snow microphysics for the NASA Goddard scheme and bring improvements using these observational datasets.

Summer went by very fast this year, and with the fall semester coming up quickly, I am getting ready for to teach a graduate level course in hydrometeorology!
